Silver jewellery lovers often find themselves in a conundrum when their shiny silver jewellery looks cheap and is heavily covered with tarnish. I can personally relate to how difficult it can seem to remove tarnished silver. What you may not know that your silver jewellery can easily shine exactly like how you had first bought it. Although it seems nearly unbelievable, I am going to hold your hand lay down some of the easiest hacks in the book for you to be able to bring your old jewellery back to life. Not just cleaning hacks, but how to store silver jewellery and don’t of using the same. These are the simplest tips to make your silver fashion jewellery dazzle again.




Aluminium Foil and Baking Soda

Take a glass bowl and cover it with an alluminium foil with the shiny side of the foil facing upwards. Now add equal amounts of baking soda and salt (1 tablespoon each) into the bowl. Pour atleast 3 glass of hot water into the mixture in order to dissolves the two solutes completely. Now submerge your silver jewelley so as to completely immerse your jewellery into the solution. If your silver jewellery is very detailed, move it around using a wooden spatula or tongs. Keep it submerged for several minutes. You will observe black tarnish from your silver jewellery afloat on the solution’s surface. Remove your now dazzling silver jewellery using a lint-free cloth and dry thoroughly.



Storage of your Shining silver jewellery

Maybe you have just cleaned your precious silver jewellery using the above method or just bought home your newly adored silver jewellery online or from a store nearby, either ways, there is a right way to store them. Store your jewellery in a tightly closed zip lock bag. This is will reduce its interaction with air, slowing down the rate of tarnish build up. Pure sterling silver jewellery or silver coated fashion jewellery corrodes due to the presence of silver. The silver mixes with the air to create a black tarnish in the form of silver sulphide.


Keep your silver jewellery or silver coated jewellery away from chemicals

When where your silver jewellery or silver coated jewellery, keep products like moisturizers, deodorants, perfumes, face wash, etc away from them. Also keep your jewellery away from household chemicals like bleach and detergents. These chemicals are not good for your jewellery and can easily damage them. Finally body oils contain sulphur, which although may be an essential oil to your skin, creates tarnish on your silver jewellery.
